Over the last ten or
fifteen years, aesthetic medical technology has grown at an explosive
rate. A scientific approach to skin care that includes prevention and
maintenance, in addition to treatment of the damaging effects of sun
exposure, now allows us to achieve results that were not previously
possible. We can now also provide pre- and post-operative treatments
which speed recovery and improve surgical results.
For any given aesthetic concern, there are both medical and
surgical enhancements which are possible. Additionally, treatment
options are also available which are less invasive than surgery, but
more invasive than typical medical spa treatments:
BOTOX® injection for facial wrinkles and lines, collagen
injection for lip enhancement and softening of deep facial folds and
creases, laser treatment of facial veins and rosacea, and non-invasive
laser collagen remodeling for permanent improvement of fine wrinkles and
increasing skin tone.
This explosion in medical aesthetic technology
has resulted in a market that is literally flooded with new products,
devices and procedures all claiming to be the ‘latest and greatest’ or
the ‘next big thing’. A great deal of dedication (and caution!) is
required to sort through all of the new (and often not-so-new)
technology which is marketed simultaneously to aesthetic
professionals and to the public. We take great pride in carefully
investigating new technologies, and in offering only those treatments
which we feel are safe, reproducible, and not associated with prolonged
‘downtime’. |

Introduction
When
you get right down to it, nobody really needs aesthetic surgery.
It is rather a matter of whether an individual wants aesthetic
surgery. God makes us all (and all of our parts) in different shapes and
sizes, and beauty is not merely in the eyes of the beholder, but also in
the eyes of the beheld. |
 |
That being said, aesthetic surgery can have a positive,
powerful and lasting impact on a patient’s life. You may be
absolutely certain that you want to have a particular procedure
performed, and I am continually amazed at how thoroughly many
patients have educated themselves prior to a consultation.
Alternately, you may not yet know what possibilities exist for
improving a feature that you would like to change. Or you may
not be able to pinpoint exactly what feature it is that ‘ages’
you.
In any case, the only way to truly decide whether or not
to “have something done” is to get the best information
available from a source with experience and appropriate
credentials, whom you trust with your well-being. That
information includes a thorough understanding of all options
available (both surgical and non-surgical), provided by someone
that understands your aesthetic sensibility and goals. This is
what I do my best to provide for every individual that I meet in
consultation.
My personal aesthetic sensibility is
this: a good aesthetic surgery result is a result that looks
natural, not ‘done’. I always delight in the patient who reports
that their friends or colleagues at work say “You look
fantastic!”, but can’t quite put their finger on why. |
The Latest and
Greatest?
Today the
popular media is filled with reports of the “latest and
greatest” aesthetic treatment or procedure, many of which come
and go in the blink of an eye. In some cases the “latest thing”
may merely turn out to be ineffective, but in other unfortunate
cases it may actually turn out to be dangerous. Additionally, a
fair number of so-called ‘new’ treatments turn out to be
recycled versions of older technology.
Our mission, in our fully-integrated medical spa and
aesthetic surgery office, is to carefully research for our
clients and patients which treatments and procedures are safe,
effective and appropriate. We only incorporate technology and
procedures into this practice which have been scientifically and
reproducibly demonstrated to be just that: safe, effective and
appropriate. |

The Full
Spectrum of Medical Aesthetics
For some
time I have provided patients both pre- and post-operative care
by licensed aestheticians, including treatments such as medical
skin rejuvenation, lymphatic drainage, medical massage and
oxygen facials. These measures truly can enhance surgical
results and speed recovery.
Additionally, there are many aesthetic issues for which
surgery is not at all indicated or is not necessarily the best
answer. Dramatic aesthetic enhancements can be accomplished with
medical-level skin care treatments and products. We also
successfully employ a number of non-surgical, minimally invasive
(and highly effective) treatments including non-ablative
collagen remodeling, collagen injection, autologous fat
injection, BOTOX® injection and laser
treatment of rosacea and facial ‘spider veins’. It is my
pleasure and privilege to provide the full spectrum of aesthetic
medical and surgical care to our clients.
